Giving Teeth to India-s Wind-Solar Hybrid Policy
Although the industry has generally welcomed the newly-enunciated Wind-Solar Hybrid Policy, review of its certain aspects may be necessitated on the back of some serious concerns
Gearing up for 80 GW and beyond
Wind dominates the renewable energy (RE) segment with an installed capacity of over 34,000 MW. The segment, which was once the leader in RE, may lose its sheen as grid-connected solar energy may take over wind in the coming years
Financial institutes cast doubts on the viability of projects
The target is achievable if you look at the wind potential and the capabilities of the wind turbine manufacturers, who can manufacture the machines and develop the workforce to execute the project. If you take that as a benchmark, then it is achievable.
India's first wind power auction to upend traditional business model | BTI
India’s first ever wind power auction has resulted in a record low wind power tariff of Rs 3.46 (US¢ 5.2)/kWh, just marginally higher than the record low levelised tariff of Rs 3.29 (US¢ 4.9)/kWh in the recent Rewa solar auction. Mytrah, Sembcorp, Inox and Ostro are the winning bidders and will be awarded 250 MW each. Successful bidders will sign 25-year PPAs with PTC India, which will sign back-to-back PPAs with discoms.
India's first wind tender oversubscribed despite off-take uncertainties | BTI
Earlier this month, SECI received bids for India’s first wind power tender. There are two unique aspects of this tender – i) successful bidders will sign 25-PPAs with PTC India Limited, which will sign back-to-back PPAs with as yet unknown discoms; and ii) existing operational projects and/or under construction projects are eligible to participate.
The Long Shot
Wind energy has been identified as a potential response to India´s crucial power challenges since the 1990s. The sector has undergone a major shift in India, and even after a good 25 years, we still await the full potential of this renewable source to be realised.
We have an active pipeline of 3,000 MW renew projects
Wind energy has been identified as a potential response to India´s crucial power challenges since the 1990s. Since then, no other renewable energy source has attained the level of maturity that wind power has, and even after a good 25 years, we still await the full potential of this renewable source to be realized.
