The recent draft amendments by the Ministry of Power for group captive power has not gone well with the captive power players. The amendments are blessings in disguise for state distribution companies (DISCOMs), as it was on their complaints that the government has acted upon.

Maha collects cess for renewable energy generation
Maharashtra government has levied a cess of eight paise per unit from 1st May 2008 on the sale of electricity to commercial and industrial consumers. The cess is to be used for executing schemes of generation of renewable energy. The Electricity Act 2003 and Tariff Policy 2006 provide enabling framework for renewable energy projects in the country, said the Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Farooq Abdullah in the Lok Sabha on May 3.
