Worlds largest solar plant to come up in India
World’s largest solar plant has been planned by India in its Rajasthan state to generate 4,000 mw near the Sambhar lake. The solar plant’s first phase is estimated to be completed by 2016. It is planned to sell electricity from the solar plant at Rs 5.50 per unit. According to a government statement, the proposed solar project's capacity is about three times India's total solar power capacity and comparable with coal-fired ultra mega power projects of Tata Power and Reliance Power.

Five PSUs to set up 4,000 mw solar project in Rajasthan
To set up a solar power project of 4,000 mega watts capacity in Rajasthan, five Central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) have joined hands. BHEL, PowerGrid Corporation, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, Solar Energy Corporation, and Hindustan Salts are the five CPSUs which will set up the project on the land belonging to Hindustan Salt at Sambhar in Rajasthan. The project is to be commissioned in three years.

To implement smart-grid mechanism for better transmission of power and reduce pilferage in the process, PowerGrid Corporation of India (PowerGrid) has sought permission from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). The CERC'x permission is expected to come in a month, PowerGrid said. The project would cost around Rs 655 crore and would be completed in three years.
