Installed Generation Capacity Sufficient to Meet Electricity Demand
The installed electricity generation capacity in the country was around 364,960 MW on October 31, which is sufficient to meet the electricity demand in the country. The gap between demand and supply of power up to October during the current fiscal in terms of energy and peak is less than 1 per cent, stated Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy.

Indian government’s Rs 344 bn bonanza for solar sector
The Government of India has approved the launch of KUSUM (Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme, to promote the use of solar powered agriculture pumps by farmers and installation of small renewable power plants (500 KW to 2 MW) by farmers/cooperatives/panchayats on their lands, with a funding support of Rs 344.22 billion.

India using just 7% of RE potential
Combining renewable energies like wind, solar, biomass and small hydro resources, India is using only 7 per cent of it. The cumulative renewable power installed capacity in December 2017 was 62.8 GW while in March 2018, it reached 69.5 GW.
