Coal secretary promotes clean mining
Union coal secretary Sushil Kumar said the government is all set to focus its coal production strategy on low ash clean for environment conservation as coal continues to remain the prime source of energy in India. He said that the government wanted to increase clean coal production through cleaning units (coal washeries) in different coal-producing states.

India needs to modernise its existing plants
As per GoI estimates, coal will continue to be the mainstay of power generation in India for the next decade. Efficient technologies like supercritical technology can play an advanced role in balancing between providing access to power to all its citizens with the need for emission control.

An international training programme in Tiruchirapalli on Clean Coal Technologies (CCT) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) attracted 60 representatives of power plant equipment manufacturers and utilities nationwide for sharing of knowledge derived from implementation of these technologies in European countries.
