Biomass energy is generated through organic matter and can be utilised for various applications, to produce heat and electricity, or used in combined heat and power (CHP) plants; in combination with fossil fuels (co-firing) to improve efficiency and reduce the build up of combustion residues; to replace petroleum as a source for transportation fuels.
By-products can be used as fuel & bio-manure
BIOTECH has successfully installed around 52 waste-to-electricity projects, 260 institutional plants and more than 30,000 family size kitchen waste treatment biogas plants with financial assistance from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, and with the active co-operation of the local bodies.

The humongous amounts of garbage generated in India can very well entitle the waste management sector to claim being an industry.
