Perkins Engines Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., has announced the appointment of David Nicoll in the Industrial Large Engine department as Product Manager. Nicoll will lead global strategy, product introductions and lifecycle management for industrial 9.3-18 litre engines at the Mossville facility in Illinois, US.

India is the world's third largest producer and fourth largest consumer of electricity. With such a large size and being a capital intensive business, it has got its own importance.

Even as the role of renewables progressively increases India overall energy mix, the policymakers must not lose sight of the very significant role that coal plays in the country economy, avers Andrew DeLeone, Managing Director, GE Power India. He recommends that the country must leverage its cost competitiveness to set-up low emission thermal power plants overseas by offering attractive financing options.

A recent study has claimed that India would overtake China by a wide margin to become the world's leader in renewable energy by 2050.

In June 2018, the government has revised the targets for 2022 to increase the solar power capacity to 113 GW from the earlier set 100 GW. Though the industry has the capability to meet this, it is fighting policy-level challenges.

After the government announced its plans of 100 GW addition, a high level of traction was perceivable in the market. This is because of the policy-level push from the central and the state governments.

Last year was challenging as the wind industry witnessed slowdown due to the transition from feed-in tariff (FiT) to competitive bidding. This impacted margins and created temporary uncertainty in terms of volumes.

As one of the signatories of the Paris Agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, among its other commitments, India has also announced plans to majorly shift to electric vehicles by 2030.
