Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has secured a new order in India from ReNew Power, India’s largest renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP).

GE has implemented the first Predix Asset Performance Management (APM) solution in India for Tata Power’s thermal business.

The wind sector, in the last two years, has not seen much traction due to various reasons. And because of the recent cancellation of auctions in various states, the year will pass with a no-show from the sector that had earlier added 34 GW of capacity.

In an interview, DV Giri, Secretary General, Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association said that in 2018-19 with the dependence on the SECI bids that have an 18 months project period, and bids from Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra will see the installation of around 2,000-2,500 MW in FY19, further adding that the turnaround will start from 2019-20 and the future is good for the industry.

Manoj Gupta, Vice President-Solar Business, Fortum India opines most of the financing received for the renewable energy development comes from the domestic banks. However, with the current level of fund generation, it is difficult to sustain solar energy goals.

One of the key challenges that India faces today in the installation of GW-scale solar projects in the construction of transmission lines to dispense power at diverse locations of the country. This approach of system planning referred to as LCPV (Large Centralised Solar PV generation) is driven by the old benchmarks which are meant for large thermal or hydro projects.
