For Surat residents, power cuts are going to be a thing of the past. Over seven lakh consumers of Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company (DGVCL) are set to get relief from November this year once the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) project implemented. Sources said the Centre has sanctioned Rs 14.84 crore under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) for the project.
Surat Circle has been selected for kick starting the SCADA project with a control centre in Varachha. This project aims at energy accounting and making electricity distribution a profit making business enterprise. Also, SCADA implementation will reduce power cuts, erratic voltage and low or high supply frequency by optimally utilizing existing electric power and resources.
Because the process is online, supply by instant loading and voltage profile are effectively monitored, daily and monthly data are readily aggregated, and the energy flow is easily tracked to individual feeders. Sources said the consumers served by DGVCL have been complaining about power cuts every now and then due to the fault in overhead lines.
