Five months ahead of the scheduled completion date, Sterlite Power upgraded Jharkhand’s 132 kv Hatia- Kamdara transmission line. Excessive load that led to massive outages in nearby rural areas resulted in upgrading the capacity on the transmission line. Commenting on the same, Manish Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Power– Solutions Business said, “Continuous outages in Karra, Kamdara and Gumla have been a longstanding issue in this area. Finding an effective solution was of paramount importance. This line will help the state of Jharkhand provide reliable access to power in the region and further, its rollout of the center’s Saubhagya scheme.”
Through a single circuit Hatia- Kamdara line, the Kamdara substation receives its power and transmits the power towards Gumala and railway load. A massive increase in the load occurred when a new electrified railway track was laid from Ranchi to Rourkela that drew power from the same substation. The solution used to address this issue was a combination of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) along with High Performance Conductors (HPC) to make the power system robust.
